Abstract
The present research was designed as an empirical study with the purposes of 1) investigating the significant stressors that may substantially influence life satisfaction of individuals with physical disabilities, based on the stress-coping model, and 2) exploring the sophisticated mechanism between the variables with consideration of mediations, and finding out which kinds of coping resources are useful in improving the relationship among stressors and life satisfaction of individuals with physical disabilities. The research used the 2008 Third Korean Welfare Panel Study(household and household members data, and the supplementary survey for individuals with disability), with 623 individuals with physical disabilities, aged over 18. The research findings revealed that among internal and external coping resources, self-esteem and enacted social support were significantly and positively associated with life satisfaction. Self-esteem had mediating effects on the associations among stressors and life satisfaction of individuals with physical disabilities, while enacted social support and perceived social support did not show significant mediating effects. Implications were discussed based on these research findings.
